Overview

Although Emirates operate their own frequent flyer program, Skywards, the popular Middle Eastern carrier holds a close partnership with the Flying Kangaroo. This allows Qantas Frequent Flyer members to earn and redeem their Qantas points on Emirates flights. The Qantas – Emirates frequent flyer partnership sits outside of Qantas oneworld alliance, which means some Emirates frequent flyer Qantas benefits are a little different.

Some of Emirates frequent flyer highlights include the ability to redeem Qantas points for Emirates flights at the Qantas rate (lower than most other Qantas partners).

Earning Qantas points on Emirates flights

The Emirates frequent flyer partnership allows Qantas members to earn points on all Emirates marketed (EK coded) flights. Points are earned at the reduced ‘Qantas Partner’ rate. Read on to view some example flights from Australia.

How to credit points to Qantas on Emirates bookings

When booking

To credit your Emirates flight to Qantas, simply add your Qantas frequent flyer number when booking your Emirates flight via the Emirates website or your travel agent.

If you forgot to add it when booking, simply locate your booking on the Emirates website by clicking on ‘Manage’ in the top menu.

Next, add your Emirates booking details (last name and booking reference number) and click ‘Retrieve Booking’. Locate your booking and click on the ‘Add Frequent Flyer Number’ button. You can then select ‘Qantas Frequent Flyer’ as the program and add your membership number.

After your flight

If you didn’t add your membership number before your flight, don’t worry, you can still credit your Emirates frequent flyer trip to Qantas. You can do so by submitting a ‘Missing Points’ claim on the Qantas website.

Don’t yet have a Qantas Frequent Flyer membership? As long as you’re within 30 days of your Emirates booking, simply create a new Qantas Frequent Flyer account (use this free link) and then submit a ‘Missing Points’ claim.

To submit a claim, simply a go to the claim form, select ‘EK – Emirates’ from the drop down, add your flight number and finally, your flight information.

Emirates frequent flyer Qantas point claims can take up to two weeks to process.

Emirates frequent flyer status

Earning Qantas status credits on Emirates flights

No status credits are earned on Emirates operated, EK coded flights.

Qantas code-share some Emirates flights that earn points and status credits at the full Qantas rate. Look for an Emirates flight that’s sold on the Qantas website (QF coded) to ensure you earn at the Qantas rate.

Using your Qantas status on Emirates flights

Qantas frequent flyer members can use their Qantas status when flying with the Dubai-based carrier. Those with premium status (Gold and above) enjoy access to the Emirates Lounge, priority baggage, boarding and additional checked baggage.

Redeeming Qantas points for Emirates frequent flyer flights

Qantas Frequent Flyer members can use their Qantas points for Emirates flights across their international network. Emirates fly from Australia to Asia, and on to Europe via its Dubai base.

The kicker here is that you can redeem Emirates flights for the same amount of points as the equivalent Qantas operated flight. This requires less Qantas points than most of the Red Roo’s other alliance members!
