Overview

Cathay Pacific is a member of the Red Roo’s oneworld alliance. This means, when you book a Cathay Pacific flight with a CX code, you can earn Qantas points and status credits.

Qantas members also receive reciprocal benefits when flying with the Hong Kong carrier. Gold and Platinum status holders are recognised with access to Cathay Pacific’s world-class lounges, extra baggage and priority services. Silver members are limited to priority boarding.

As a Qantas member, you can also redeem your points for Cathay Pacific flights. This is a great option, due to popular airline’s extensive global network and low tax surcharges.

Earning Qantas points on Cathay Pacific flights

When you book a Cathay Pacific flight with a CX code, you can credit your flight to Qantas Frequent Flyer and earn Qantas points and status credits at the partner rates below. Points can only be earned when you pay with cash or credit/debit, not when you redeem a flight with points.

Qantas code-share some Cathay Pacific flights. This allows you to earn points and status credits at the full Qantas rate. As always, look for the QF flight number.

The Qantas status bonus does not apply to Cathay Pacific flights.

Cathay Pacific Qantas point fare rules

  • Qantas points can only be earned on Cathay Pacific (CX) operated flights and its affiliate, Cathay Dragon (KA)
  • Qantas points may be earned on non-Cathay Pacific oneworld airlines under CX code-share arrangements (all non-oneworld code-shares are excluded)
  • It’s important to note that Cathay’s popular promotional fares (including ‘Q’ and ‘S’ fare types) do not earn any points or status credits.

* Asian earn-rates begin at this level and rises slightly depending on the specific destination.

The Qantas points + status credit calculator allows you to search for specific Cathay Specific itinerary. Simply select Cathay Pacific from the drop-down list. Flight sectors with different flight numbers need to be searched separately (e.g. for a Cathay Pacific flight from Sydney to Tokyo via Hong Kong, you’d need to look up: Flight 1. Sydney – Hong Kong and then Flight 2. Hong Kong – Tokyo).

Using your Qantas status on Cathay Pacific flights

Qantas Frequent Flyers gain reciprocal status benefits when flying with the Hong Kong carrier. Those with premium status (Gold and above) enjoy access Cathay Pacific’s world-class lounges, priority baggage, boarding and additional baggage.

Qantas Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyer members can relax in Cathay Pacific’s incredible lounges when travelling with the Hong Kong based carrier.

You must ensure your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number is present within your Cathay Pacific booking to receive these benefits.

Silver Qantas Status

  • Priority check-i
    Use Cathay Pacific’s premium check-in desks in Hong Kong and other global airports, regardless of the class of travel. Simply present your Qantas Silver membership at check-in.

Gold Qantas Status

  • Priority check-in
    Check in at Cathay Pacific’s Business Class counters, regardless of your fare class. Simply present your Gold status membership card at check-in.
  • Priority Boarding
    Board first via the Cathay Pacific priority boarding lane (where present).
  • Additional Checked Baggage Allowance
    Get an additional 15kg of checked allowance (of if using the ‘piece’ system, an additional checked bag up to 23kg)
  • Priority Baggage
    Receive your bags first on arrival.
  • Reciprocal Lounge Access
    When travelling on a flight with a Cathay Pacific (CX) or Qantas (QF) flight number you’ll receive premium lounge access for you and one guest (guest must hold a ticket on the same flight as you). Eligible Cathay Pacific lounges are available throughout Europe, Asia and the US.
