QantasThis is a general guide
Qantas Frequent Flyer mehmbers can now earn Qantas points and status credits flying on Air New Zealand flights. However, there’s a catch. Only domestic New Zealand flights with a QF code-share are eligible. This means no international Trans-Tasman trips. The agreement does, however, grant Qantas Frequent Flyer members reciprocal lounge access.
Qantas customers will benefit from more onward flight alternatives, with the arrangement leveraging 30 domestic routes in New Zealand.
The deal, which is not a formal alliance, does not yet include reward seat access. Air New Zealand remains in the Star Alliance.
In a bizarre quirk, Aussie travellers can earn and redeem Velocity points across Air New Zealand’s entire network, via a Singapore Airlines membership. As flyerpoints.com.au readers would be aware, a KrisFlyer membership also allows you to redeem your Velocity points across over 25 Star Alliance airlines (which includes Air New Zealand).
Earning Qantas points on Air New Zealand flights
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can now earn points on selected Air New Zealand flights across the ditch. To be eligible, a domestic Air New Zealand flight (e.g. Auckland to Wellington) must be code-shared with Qantas (a QF flight number).
Domestic Air New Zealand flights will begin appearing on the Qantas website from late 2018.
The Qantas status bonus is likely to apply on eligible Air New Zealand flights, however, this is yet to be confirmed.
Qantas points credits are earned at the full Qantas rate.
